The Politi-ka project came on reading an article on Francis Bacon's work discussing the 'tensions between intelligence and sensation'.
I wanted to explore the technical possibilities and limits of casting and stop-motion animation. This culminated in a series of cast heads and an ambitious animation involving 4ft high puppets.
While 'Politi-ka'* never grew to become a large scale project, it seeded many interests in internal dualities, narrative and neuroscience that continue to inform and inspire my current practice.
*The title a literal merging of the Germanic 'Politik' (for political and democratic purposes) and 'Ka' the ancient Egyptian word for 'an attendant spirit supposedly dwelling as a vital force in a man or statue'.
